A week of retreat at Sheldon
Tom recently spent a week at Sheldon Retreat Centre, about 8 miles outside Exeter — a place the parish has long supported. It was very hot, so he took walks in the early morning and evenings when it was a little cooler, enjoying the grounds' animals and some beautiful views. He also found a local pub within walking distance to watch England play Argentina — a result better left undiscussed.
Alongside using the Daily Prayer app, he found it a peaceful space for rest and reading, including Redeeming Power: Understanding Authority and Abuse in the Church by Diane Langberg and, for lighter relief, The Puppet Show by M.W. Craven.
A few verses from Psalm 146 stayed with him:
Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing. Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God.
Marianne speaks at Mayor's Mattins at Winchester Cathedral.
Marianne began her year as Mayor‘s Chaplain today at the Cathedral. She gave a brilliant message - starts about 49:50. very grateful to some of the congregation coming to support her.
